Taoban House 陶板屋

This place serves a decent 8-course meal. I cannot really make out what type of cuisine this is, but it came across as a mix of Chinese and Western to me. Regardless, it was overall a very filling dinner and we enjoyed the service provided!

If your birthday falls on the week you are there, they'll celebrate it for you! Here's what they did for the next table.

台北市重慶南路一段58號2樓

Recommendation for first-timers: **** (out of 5)
Price range: *** (out of 5)
Probability of return: High

The food was slightly unique and served in a timely fashion - pretty soon after we finish each dish. There wasn't any delay and though we had two to three choices per food category, the waiters seemed to remember our orders pretty well. Service was prompt and extremely polite, taking care to introduce the dishes to us briefly. At least we felt that they care and took pride in their food. Finally, a restaurant that takes the effort to celebrate birthdays always gets a PLUS in my books, so kudos to them.

Salmon Galore (Part II) - 三味食堂

Following my previous visit to this restaurant, (here: Salmon Galore) I came back again to try other dishes with more friends. Here are more photos of them. Loved every single dish!!

Salmon Galore - 三味食堂

If you are a salmon / sashimi lover, this is a MUST-GO.
Located about 10 minutes walk from Ximending Station Exit 1, it is relatively easy to find. Note the opening hours at the bottom. If you don't wish to queue much, go earlier and wait for the the doors to open. If not, be prepared to queue and watch people eat and endure the painful wait. It was about 30 minutes for us, so it's not too bad. But once inside, everything will be worth it still.

ENJOYYY.

Note the operating hours. They are so popular they can afford to take a break.

Calling for customers on the longggg list of names that we write ourselves.

We had to wait for about 10 groups before reaching our turn.
Thankfully the 2nd level is rather spacious.

Price is very decent. About 250 NTD mostly.

Free miso soup for you.

First dish - mixed sashimi. Salmon, tuna, squid and crabmeat.

Salmon is still the best for me.
Oh and yes, their wasabi is decent too. Unlike some places where it's crap and really doesn't do justice to the salmon, no matter how nice they are.As wasabi is a MUST, at least for me.
The portions are so thick I found it a little hard to chew some times.

Next up - Salmon sushi.

You can choose to have a mixture of sashimi, which I thought we should have gotten instead of only salmon. A mixture would have been nice too. I'll do that next time perhaps.
Check out the thickness
Tempura. It must have felt a little sidelined there, cause really, this was the kind of reaction.

Salmon came: WAHHHHHH. OMG.... SO BIGG... OMGGGG...
Tempura came: wahhh.. looks good.

It's true.
Have you seen salmon-wrapped rice-balls?

When you spread them open.

Look at those slabs of salmon. Gosh.

Probability of return: Definitely
Not only is the sashimi fresh, you could see how huge they are so it's surely worth your money. I will try their Dons and wraps the next time round. Everything above was for the 2 of us. And to be honest we got a little sick towards the end. It's really too much. Eat in moderation and you'll enjoy the experience better I guess!

Best of Ximending

Ah Zong Vermicelli  阿宗麵線
You won't wana miss having this at Ximending

Many bubble tea shops. This went well with me!
Spot their special "shaker" machine.  Never seen this in SG lol.

3 Bros & Sis 三兄妹

Ice shavings at 3 Bros & Sis 三兄妹雪花冰

The really good sales people of that ice shop

Many stalls like this roam the streets of  XMD.
The Cong Zhua Bing 蔥抓餅 is one of my favourites.

Check out Modern Toilet -
Xining S. Rd, Lane 50, No. 7, 2F

Probability of return: Low.
Mainly for the experience. Didn't find the food fantastic, but hey, who eats from the toilet bowl every day? It will be worth visiting for sure.

Also head to the Red Museum, where there are stalls around it sometimes selling food too.
